"Ruby could walk for hours in the bush, find a mossy log and
just sit there listening to the sounds of birds, insects and the wind talking
to the eucalyptus trees. She could smell the soft nectar of the flowers, the warm sunshine happy on her shoulder
mmmm how lucky she felt . She
imagined or did not imagine that faeries and other strange little creatures
lived in the crevices and dark cool spots she came across while exploring. Cool air would all of a sudden lick at
her ankles and little blue stars would sparkle before her eyes. So quickly the
stars would come and go, but come and go they did, many times. It was the
faeries. She could hear them
whispering and somehow knew that she needed permission from them to enter their
sanctuaries. Ruby would move on as she did not know the rules when it came to
such things. All she knew is
that for some reason they were letting her know they do exist by showing
themselves as blue sparkle stars.
Funny, isn't it strange that the mermarlins showed themselves to Ruby
all of the time. But no the faeries were much more secretive and would not let
her see their forms. When she left the cool spots the air grew thick and warm
again and the blue stars disappeared. That’s how she knew it was true. They did
exist!"
This is a paragraph from the book I am writing based on my childhood.
I have been recalling many things from when I was a little girl. I think it has something to do with my mother being in her twighlight time. We have this special connection. I remember something then she brings it up on the phone just as I recall in a dream or early morning meditation. Pop there it is clear as the time I was experiencing it the first time around.
I believe childhood to be a magical time. It is an amazing era of technology, yes kids are brighter in a cerebral mental way, however it is nature that is the best teacher, when it comes to the imagination and the good feeling our body gets when in the great outdoors.
Today I am working on a scent for children, reminiscent of my childhood. Roots, firs, flowers and magic. Scents that linger in my mind from the days in the Aussie bush with Ruby...my alter ego.
It feels good to work with the inner child!
