Office Wellness

I am so excited to announce the expansion of Karina Hayes Wellness and Faith and Science Apothecary.  For the past 12 months I have been creating a new wellness program and working in the creative world of advertising, the heady world of law and in smaller business covering a variety of services. Its a serious endeavour to step into peoples lives authentically and bring the knowledge one has accumulated over time. I have had to learn to adapt to the many wonderful kinds of human beings, all with one thing in common, to feel good and increase productivity in the work place.

We are after all human and I as much as anybody else have my off days.   This can be daunting when working in the area of wellness I can beat myself up like the next person wondering if I really have the right to be doing this, can I really make a difference.   However on these days when my humanity causes doubt,  I have found that by stepping up to the task something magical happens almost always on a 9 out of 10 times basis.

When we work for the benefit of others, the pure intention of that somehow cancels out the bad day.  If we get out of the way and open ourselves up to really be present for what is going on around us,  and to give our expertise with truth and in the present, this is where the real miracles happen.

It is about hearing a person. Listening is one thing,  but it is hearing the wishes of another that travels to the heart to ruminate and digest what is heard, not just waiting for the person to finish so we can say what we want to say and do what we will do regardless.    Hearing opens up a world between you and another, listening to their body and where it needs to be attended and what the subconscious really wants.

For instance recently I was working for a production company that had a big job coming up.   The stress and anticipation of the day at hand was looming large in the room together with the buzz and hum of phones ringing, shouting across the room.  Clients screaming "I want it now".   It was hard to hear the requests of my clients storming in this malestrom of energy and tension.

My intentions and best plans for what I would be sharing that day flew proverbially, out of the window.
I myself stopped and decided to do my own practice for better guidance and figuring out what I would do that day.     I took the megaphone and very loudly with quiet demeanor announced that there would be a meditation session in 10 minutes.    (The megaphone was sitting on a large table in readiness for the production shoot in 4 days from then).

Long story short, most of the office including the client came to the meditation session. By the end of the session, hearts had calmed, minds in readiness to work together in unity rather than chaos, the result was a healing of client, advertising company and production company.   It really was an amazing day!

I continued the day by working with each individual in a more unstructured way but the result was more calm solid structure for them. People realized they were concerned about time constraints yet wasting serious time arguing.   I believe the 30 minute meditation ended up saving about one day of production time that may have been wasted arguing.  We shared tools to bring the questions most in front of them to be addressed one by one.  Productions can be overwhelming, and everyone gets spread way too thin, literally and exhaustion sets in .

I am posting this blog today to say thank you to my clients.  They know who they are and looking forward to working with more progressive companies that wish to bring value to their employees.
I have set my intention to work on a full time basis bringing wellness to the corporate infrastructure.  Smart people who meditate and look after their bodies and minds can make a real difference to the community at large.

Please check my Menu of services on the top left side of my home page of this blog and if you have an interest in knowing more please sign up with your email just below the About me etc.

I feel it a privilege and honor to work in this field.   Its been a long journey with many years of study and practice.   I feel we truly do live in a time where Faith and Science have come together to validate one another, rather than be opposed.

Please check out the Dalai Lama on meditation and Anton Zeilinger on quantum physics!

"Try to be mindful, and let things take their natural course. Then your mind will become still in any surroundings, like a clear forest pool. All kinds of wonderful, rare animals will come to drink at the pool, and you will clearly see the nature of all things. You will see many strange and wonderful things come and go, but you will be still. This is the happiness of the Buddha.

Accepting change

We all know that change is inevitable.  We welcome some changes and some we push away, usually afraid to make the actual change until it unfolds.

I remember Robert Evans an famous 70's film producer who changed the face of the film world said something quite profound on a relative level.  He said that "preparation meets opportunity".

I think this sentiment can be applied to anything, be it work, love, family and life in general.

We can't anticipate change.   The universe is changing at a rate we can't even begin to understand quite yet.   We can however prepare ourselves for changes that come by using meditation in our daily lives.  Meditation can be taken into our daily lives to support us even while we do ordinary mundane things or while we are actively engaged in the work place.

Today my blog is not going to focus on my own words but to share a website with you.  www.katogcholing.com.   Here I introduce my teacher of ten years, Khentrul Lodro Thaye Rinpoche.   Everything I do leads back to my core beliefs and path.   From having right livelihood and trying to be a good example to my son and supporting community at a level where it can be accepted and by showing up to support  Rinpoche's activities.   Not much in the grand scheme of things but at the very least an attempt to share something special.

Khentrul Ripoche offers himself tirelessly for the benefit of others.   His website is www.katogcholing.com
Here in Miami we host a practice group at www.katogtingzinling.com where you can check our calendar for what is coming up.

I am forever grateful and indebted to offer myself to benefit others to the best of my capacity.   It is until the very heart of understanding our own true nature  we embrace change at every moment and prepare our minds to the best of ability by taking up that which is of benefit and putting down that which causes harm.

Even on a daily level we can do something nice for another.   Perhaps we can create more generosity by preparing a small token of our love.

There maybe someone you know who has not been given anything for the longest time.   We can pick a flower, make some cookies or just offer a nice neck rub.  Have the most beautiful day and may all find true contentment and happiness!

Shed some skin go and glow!

What is it about those clear days?  The days when the sun is the brightest, the sky is the bluest, or the clarity one feels after a sadness leaves, something lifts off us to reveal more of who we really are.  A rebirth of sorts, a new you or the old you underneath the pinning and trappings of what you thought you should be?

Summer is here so shed some skin on the outside to match your clear beauty on the inside.

This skin remedy of the day is suitable for both body and face.

Two cups crushed adzuki beans (blend dry beans until fine and grainy)
Add a favorite essential oil (today I chose a deep forest Juniper - rich, viscous and soft to the skin)
1/4 cup Organic virgin coconut oil.
5 drops calendular oil
squeeze of lemon juice

Scrub body and face before showering... after shower...turn to completely cold.   Refresh and close pores... this also builds a healthy immune system, winter, spring, summer and fall.

Go and glow!

The Adventures of Ruby...... The scent of faeries - they do exist!

"Ruby could walk for hours in the bush, find a mossy log and just sit there listening to the sounds of birds, insects and the wind talking to the eucalyptus trees. She could smell the soft nectar of the flowers,  the warm sunshine happy on her shoulder mmmm how lucky she felt .  She imagined or did not imagine that faeries and other strange little creatures lived in the crevices and dark cool spots she came across while exploring.  Cool air would all of a sudden lick at her ankles and little blue stars would sparkle before her eyes. So quickly the stars would come and go, but come and go they did, many times. It was the faeries.  She could hear them whispering and somehow knew that she needed permission from them to enter their sanctuaries. Ruby would move on as she did not know the rules when it came to such things.   All she knew is that for some reason they were letting her know they do exist by showing themselves as blue sparkle stars.   Funny, isn't it strange that the mermarlins showed themselves to Ruby all of the time. But no the faeries were much more secretive and would not let her see their forms. When she left the cool spots the air grew thick and warm again and the blue stars disappeared. That’s how she knew it was true. They did exist!"

This is a paragraph from the book I am writing based on my childhood.

I have been recalling many things from when I was a little girl.  I think it has something to do with my mother being in her twighlight time.    We have this special connection.   I remember something then she brings it up on the phone just as I recall in a dream or early morning meditation.  Pop there it is clear as the time I was experiencing it the first time around.

I believe childhood to be a magical time.   It is an amazing era of technology, yes kids are brighter in a  cerebral mental way, however it is nature that is the best teacher, when it comes to the imagination and the good feeling our body gets when in the great outdoors.

Today I am working on a scent for children, reminiscent of my childhood.   Roots, firs, flowers and magic. Scents that linger in my mind from the days in the Aussie bush with Ruby...my alter ego.

It feels good to work with the inner child!

Everything falls apart...everything comes together.

Just when we think we have something right.... something comes along to smash it to pieces. The most dangerous roundabout we like to get on is Why? why? why?  It's funny we all have our little places we like to get stuck.... our stories we think are real... our moments we try to hold on to like they belong to us, our unrequited dreams we whine over instead of adapting to what's next or what is.

The cup half full, the cup half empty..or is it really the cup that is.   Today I am taking a look at my cup.  I see it half full, there are a few floaters... coffee grinds, a little dust that floated in.   It's not perfect, however it is my cup and when it runneth over it feels great, when it gets a little empty its usually me imagining it is.  Right now I'll just take a sip and spit out the dust.  Life is beautiful with its potholes and potbellies.

Today my contentment is in watching my son sleep in during summer, fresh fragrant incense fills the room with healing and purifying the air.  Crazy drill sounds permeate from above ... I am drinking chai coffee with fresh vanilla bean and spices and running off to a job job.     It is the simple things to remember when we are doing something that may not be our favorite thing to be doing.   I am grateful to know the difference and just be thankful.

My satisfaction lay in knowing that there is a way to sit within the expanse of all of the chaos, the highs and lows equal in their false sense of thinking we have arrived.   It is so much about the journey ...its highs and its lows and how we choose to deal with it.

"Hundreds of stupid flies gather
On a piece of rotten meat,
Enjoying, they think, a delicious feast.
This image fits with the song
Of the myriads of foolish living beings
Who seek happiness in superficial pleasures;
In countless ways they try,
Yet I have never seen them satisfied."

The 7th Dalai Lama

Todays remedy for dissatisfaction is to try something you are afraid of and see what happens.

While you are on the journey notice how you are breathing, the thoughts that are coming up, the fear and anxiety around the thoughts....right there stop and breath, bring your awareness to the centre of your chest.   Keep breathing until the feeling disappears.... notice that the fear is not real, the thoughts are imagined.   Then take the leap ...do it..make the call, try a new step, take a flying leap into the unknown and be surprised.   Nothing bad can happen ..only good.  It's the liberation of freeing yourself that will be the reward whether you attain the goal or not.

Have a beautiful day and try a little absolute of rose and sandalwood oil to accompany your journey.

When Life is Coming at You in All Directions - It's trying to tell you somthing!!

Its a fast world with so much going on for each of us every day.   There is no perfect and there is no need to chase perfect as it can only be found within.    When things go right we are happy and when things go wrong we are sad because we feel there might be something wrong with us or that people will judge us thus.   Guilt and the pursuit of happiness on an external level only lead to a lonely place.

This past few weeks have been amazing, frightening, joyful, blissful, sad and awakening.   There is always more to learn, more to love, more to let go of and more to give and importantly more to receive.
I could make a list including a few things - my mother now is in a nursing home so when i go to call her she is no longer where I always found her for her loving advice.   (She has handled this like the angel she is and it has revealed in me a more vulnerable side).   My apartment was flooded through an accidental fire above,  then out of the blue .... literally, by the sea and sky out back of my apartment building  - I fell in love, purely and without hesitation because ...well it just feels right.  The way we met was magic, deep and beyond. I feel this person makes me a better person and I hope vice versa.  Other things are also going on... such as normal life and personal stuff so its been a wild ride to this point.   This I see as purification and the gifts that come after. Angels have been coming from everywhere to support and throw verbal flowers my way.

Whether its been chaos or bliss there is a contentment I am feeling throughout all of it.   I know this is because of my constant practice and working with my heart/mind - alternating study (wisdom) and practice of meditation and other Buddhist practices as taught by Khentrul Lodro Thaye Rinpoche. The aim is to understand the true nature of my own mind in order to benefit others.   I have been awakened to this and worked for many years and of course, I still make mistakes like most of us. It's going to be a long road and the journey is the best part.

My work is informed by my experience which I only wish to be as meaningful in my life as any other thing I do.   I am a creative and understand both creatives and the ones that facilitate them to be so.

This week I am working with those in the corporate and creative worlds and will be offering special prices on my treatments.

Whether your looking to do something for a group, at work or alone check out my wellness work on the Menu Page and give me a call to set something up.

April has been a special month for me and I want to share my great energy and work by offering some special pricing and party discounts.

I am adding fresh herbs to all of my body treatments including parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme and other special ingredients for detoxification.

Have a gorgeous day!

UNION

Its been a little while since I have written on my blog.  I admit I have felt a little guilty and we all know guilt is a no win fight with oneself.   This being said I will forgive myself for being slack.   Priorities change however consistency is crucial, so I will take a good deep look into the reason for my writers block.

As far as my work and inspired output of same, I feel better than ever.   There has been an merging quality of all aspects of my life.   This was not out of the aforementioned guilt but with one simple absorption in the understanding of the word experience.    I am experiencing the life I wish to live... not conceptualizing and grasping at it.   The proverbial brass ring, or is it a gold or platinum ring these days?

Today I would like to share the word Union.

If we can see the union of all things there is no longer any separation of things.  Perhaps in the beginning we must be aware of differences but once we know them it is easy to accept them and find a way to bring a union to any opposite polar in the realm of our experience.

I have been experimenting with this in my Spa products.

This past week I found a way to bring union to some interesting oil blends by extracting alive scents from flowers as absolutes dispersed into raw blends.   What is so amazing is the subtleness of the aromas.    What came to me is that all unions are different not only with people but in nature too.   The pungent strength of the flowers was tamed by the very same nature from whence they came (the garden) into the more subtle nature of another living substance (found in the garden also).

Isn't it wonderful how different we all are?.   A gregarious person can fall for a very introverted person if they can allow the other to be who they are and vice versa.

So for me my work always reminds me of something about myself and others.

Have a beautiful day.

This weeks exotic blend is raw oil of gardenia, blended with coconut oil and other oils with a hint of Ylang Ylang.  Ylang Ylang is an aphrodisiac used on the marital bed in Thailand and other Asian countries.

**UNION

A simple reminder - Breath & Trust

I want to remind myself and all of you out there about a little thing called trust.    I think trust and the breath go hand in hand.

Every time I get afraid, think too far ahead, worry about how the bills will get paid, the old brain kicks in. It takes over like a run away train, jumping off the rails and falling again to move ahead anyway.   Life has its secret combination.   I believe that to be tcb as Elvis used to say "Takin Care of Business" or the taking care of the relative as my teacher Khentrul Rinpoche speaks of.   Then there is the heart/mind. The all knowing conscious other reality.   When I stop and stand back to watch my breath when I think too much I notice I am not breathing, just short little shallow breaths to get through.  My brain has become a monster, creating stress, tension lack of clarity and above all panic.

This is when we need to stop, slow down and breath, tongue behind teeth, mouth slightly open with long deep breaths.   Rest and drop the shoulders, align to a straight spine and just become conscious of your breath.    I am not going into any mantra recitation here.   Lets just keep it simple.

Think about the challenge at hand and relax.   Action is important, however trust is imperative. Take refuge in your all self knowing knowledge that all will be as it should be.  There is the relative and the absolute.  Finding a way to utilize both is the way to go.

While I am at my computer I make sure I am comfortable, have plants and ground the wires with large stones.   Light a small candle and use some unobtrusive essential oils to calm.   Get up and stretch, go for a walk and if you pray ...remember to take refuge.   Just sit and feel your own self knowing true nature.   Once you return to a sense of calm then go back to what you we were doing.

If you are interested in meditation please join us Mondays at Katog Tingzin Ling www.katogtingzinling.com

Breath and welcome every challenge with trust and the hard work that must accompany.

Have a gorgeous day and stay tuned for my Valentine's day specials <3

Sail

the interior of a sail boat is much like the interior of our bodies..... compact and just big enough to hold everything, practical and streamlined with external beauty to comfort our aesthetic disposition.

As we sail along the water and my client lays down to receive  healing touch with fresh mixed potions of marigold and liquid amber.  I am struck by the backdrop of of turquoise  ice atop the  deep royal blue ocean, the sound of whales trumpet breaking the serene quite of majestic trees. Vivid green peaks sprinkled with black spots moving as birds.    This I have the pleasure of  watching through a round porthole framed in oak. The cosy rosewood furnished room, I have drenched with colorful flowers, yellow, cornflower blue and red.  This now moment is one that will linger a lifetime.

We all deserve to work at what we love and at the same time enjoy the beauty of this planet and all that we work for.   If not then we are not taking anything away from our experiences.   Now is the time to jump on the sail boat and go to some destination unknown in the realm of our experiences thus far.

Alaska, a land of plenty. One destination in a world with plenty to offer.

Scent and Wellness

Its fascinating the way we are drawn or repelled by different aromas, colors and sounds.

Today I am working with African pink pepper, Western Australian Sandalwood and Jasmine.   Pink brown and yellow are the colors of warmth and calm is the effect of these oils.   I am blending them into an exotic asian inspired oil I created a few weeks ago for a wellness client.

Besides smelling gorgeous this floral, yet earthy perfume brings one to a place of grounded quiet.   It gives one the feeling of sitting in a great cathedral or brings to mind the ambience of a majestic museum.   In fact, museums are often painted with amber hues to promote calm and quietitude.

Music, Scent and wellness therapies work beautifully together for me.  All of the work work I do resides in the realm of music with bass, middle and top note.  This is the basis of alchemy.  Each note evokes a special feeling, mood or memory.

Our world is indeed one of continual wonder and boring is not a word in my vocabulary.  Let's play.

Have a wonderful, peaceful holiday and may all of your dreams and aspirations come true.
Love Karina

Smell the Secret Seducer

Each of us have a personal scent or body odour, an olfactory chip.  Pheromones are present in all of us.  What matters in the body scent is the sum of all odours given off by a person.

Body odours or our olfactory chip are connected with race and upbringing, eating habits, hygiene and living conditions...values seen as the aggregate "+#chemosphere™".  We can recognize another by their body smell.

Choosing the right perfume is totally unique and individual and some scents just don't work with our particular body scent.    When I use rose or light geranium people go crazy...yet when my girlfriend wears the same mix, people turn their nose up and ask "what is that smell, smells like mosquito repellant".

Making a personalized scent is the way to go.   Finding the perfect blend.

Today I made myself an Asian inspired scent to warm and sit next to my heart.

Let me know if you are interested in your own blend from my Company Faith and Science. Each recipe will be stored with your personal number.. get your potion and number for life.

Happy Holidays

Unique Australian antimicrobial oils for your Family and Fall fallout

Today I am working with essential oils from my homeland Australia.   I feel transported by these medicinal oils... reminded of the bushland, trees and unique birds of my blessed childhood.    Lilli Pilli trees and giant red gums bleeding sticky sweet smelling nectar.   No wonder I always feel well back on the land, nature emanates its goodness into the air to cleanse and purify.

We rarely got sick because we were either running around amidst these wonderful trees or in the fresh salt water swimming and surfing.

The oils I am working with today are in the tea tree family but smell so much sweeter and can actually be used in perfumery.  As we move into winter we need to adjust our diet, homes and clothing appropriately.   Even though I am in Florida I make the effort to move with the seasons as our visitors bring with them the colds and flus from their home States and we experience a mild change of weather with chilly night.  Please read below for two very interesting topicals you can use to stay well.

Nerolina (Melaleuca quinquenervia) is distilled from the same Australian tea tree species as Niaouli. Nerolina Oil possesses a woody yet floral aroma reminiscent to lavender. Nerolina's content of the terpene alcohol linalool and the sesquiterpene nerolidol is responsible for imparting Nerolina Essential Oil with its sweet, floral, lavender-like aroma. Nerolina is used in perfumery/natural fragrancing. Nerolina Oil is a natural antiseptic and anti-bacterial and is useful during the cold season to treat head and chest cold.   This is the perfect time of year to be using an oil such as Nerolina.
Try using a base of almond oil and add a little lemon essential oil to cut the edge.

The other essential oil in the tea tree family I am working with is Rosalina - (Melaleuca ericifolia) also known as Lavender tea tree.  Direct from distilleries in Australia, this is the gentler form of tea tree, an excellent choice for children and those seeking an antimicrobial oil with a softer aroma.

Timing is Everything

#Timing, #alignment, #synchronicity.  There are many names for the feeling of right timing.
No matter if you know something and your partner ~friend~ business partner cannot see the reality of a situation.  We can never force that person to get what you might already get.  If we push for outcomes we push for early decisions that may not be ready for the other person.  It's up to us to decide whether this feels right for us.  Do we fit are we really right for each other.  Will this business flourish if these stagnate issues are unresolved... your mind may work faster than the other person's mind.  Surrender is key if we are to feel the purity of a decision that sits right within us.  We get scared because we do not wish to lose something so sometimes we add to the stagnation and keep it stuck, motionless and dead.

Business is practical and decisions must be made without the emotions.   If a business is run by emotions then we are in big trouble. If we sense something is wrong then it usually is.  Sensing is not emotion..it is other and counter to emotion.  Go with the sense but wait for the right timing.  Things are right to move when it is ready. Meantime tame the emotions, like stroking a wild cat, the clarity will come in the calm purring hum ... against the quite walls of a sacred space.

Today get your focus and stay calm.  Try citrus on your temples with a touch of lavendula augustafolia, sandalwood and rose to calm the heart and tonify the lungs.

Check out my Menu of Services for a weekend treatment if your spirit calls you.

Have a beautiful day.

Faith and Science

When faith and science began to merge together astrologically about ten years ago (btw I know little of astrology but do keep some fine company that are experts in this field), it was as if everything changed overnight.   For the few of us that worked in the realm of wellness and the healing arts and had long known the links between nature, science and the esoteric philosophies of most religions this acknowledgment came with a great sigh of welcomed relief.

The Dalai Lama was suddenly placed up there in the academic field with the physicists of the world and was brought into great discussions and experiments utilizing his knowledge and expertise on meditation, the importance of faith and acceptance of universal laws to find true lasting happiness.

For so many years the healing arts and associated modalities of acupuncture, massage, aromatic medicines, natural remedies and prevention were seen as woo woo and without merit or credibility. Again overnight we wellness practitioners were suddenly being welcomed into the more open minded hospital wards to bring our warm healing touch and old world remedies.   Simple, wholesome, healthy preventative measures and modern medicine coming together to serve body mind and spirit.

I myself ran a small wellness and spa program in Malibu and able to take my small child to work with me to play on the beach and watch the dolphins while I worked my own magic. To be able to create a work environment conducive to motherhood was a great gift.

I am writing about this as we continue to move into the Aquarian age and to experience these great changes, not that I have a choice.  Being connected and information is where we are right now.   I have to remind myself of the great things that are happening.  It is easy to get jaded and lose faith when things change so drastically, it can be hard to keep up and keep your sense of the simple real values in life. Each time change happens we have to surrender to the truth of what is. What is doesn't always match the way we would like it to be.

Schools sometimes get bogged down by the bureaucracies they must serve.   By attending such schools we can tend to get "stuck" in that belief system.  Its important to trust your own inner wisdom and then back it up with some education in the field.  However it is experience and truly listening to each individual to attain results that defines us as wellness practitioners.

Today I am looking into new oils from the Amazon for some of my new scents that I am working on. I am grateful to be able to work in America and have access to scientific minds now open to work with people such as myself and work with age old nature which remains when all the astrological ages and people within in them disperse to the ground of all things.

Faith, science and nature truly have come together. We are living in challenging times of adaptation.  We need the courage to surrender to our own true nature and the way things are.  Here is an interesting link to an astrology article I found today.  http://return2thesource.wordpress.com/2011/01/  Please contact me if you are interested in any of my wellness treatments listed on my blog on my Menu of Services page.
